Launch of India@75 – Celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence

The High Commission launched India@75 ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ on 22 March, 2021 at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre. India@75 is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. Members of the Diaspora and Indian Community came together to participate in this event.

The Assistant Minister for Employment, Productivity, Industrial Relations and Youth and Sports, Honorable Alvick Maharaj graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his speech, he highlighted that the India@75 celebrations would be a great opportunity for Fijians and other Pacific Island countries to learn about the rich culture, heritage and arts of India. He expressed his best wishes to the High Commission of India in holding the celebrations and giving an opportunity to the local Indian community to become aware of the unique legacy of India and connect with their land of origin.

The Acting High Commissioner, Mr. Sukanta Charan Sahoo briefed the audience regarding the celebrations which will end on 15 August, 2023 and encouraged the local Diaspora and members of the Indian community to participate in these coming events by giving ideas for adding local flavour to the list of activities being planned for celebrating the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence.
