Handing Over of Medical Supplies to the Government of Fiji

A Consignment of Medical Supplies worth over FJ$325,000.00 containing Anti-Retroviral drugs for HIV patients in Fiji, PPE kits and N95 masks (125,000pcs) and Tuberculosis medicines was handed-over by the Government of India to the Government of Fiji on 11 April 2022 at a ceremony held at the Fiji Pharmaceutical & Biomedical Service Centre in Suva.

2.? On behalf of the Government of India, High Commissioner H. E. Mr. P. S. Karthigeyan handed over the consignment to Minister for Health and Medical Services of Government of Fiji, Hon. IfereimiWaqainabete. Among the dignitaries present at the event included Mr. JeremaiaMataika, Head of Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services, and other senior Government health officials.

3.? High Commissioner, in his remarks, stated that the Government and people of India are happy to help a ‘friend in need’ and in the spirit of VasudhevKutumbakam - “the World is one family”, India is committed to assisting Fiji in times of natural disasters and pandemic and support the different sectors of the Fijian economy. India also commends the Government of Fiji in their achievements in efforts mitigating the impact of COVID-19.

 4. ?In his remarks, Minister for Health and Medical Services of Government of Fiji thanked Government of India for the Medical Supplies which will complement the work of health care professionals and front-liners who have dedicated their lives to serving the nation. He also thanked the Government of India for its leadership and unwavering commitment to Fiji.

5.? The Anti-Retroviral drug and Covid related supplies (PPE and N95 masks) requested by the Government of Fiji were delivered as a grant assistance to augment the medical supplies required by Ministry of Health and Medical Services in Fiji which have been severely impacted due to the Covid-19 crises.

6. The latest assistance in the health sector underlines India’s strong commitment to working together and supporting Fiji through all times.
