Signing of MOU between High Commission of India, Suva & Cook Islands High Commission, Suva - 6 October, 2021

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between High Commission of India, Suva and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration (MFAI), Government of Cook Islandsunderannual grant-in-aid for implementation of six community development projects in Cook Islands was signed on 06 October, 2021 during an event organized by High Commission of India in Suva.

2. From the Indian side, the MoU was signed by H.E. P. S. Karthigeyan, High Commissioner of India to Fiji and from the Cook Island side by Mr. Jim Armistead, Charge d’Affaires, High Commission of Cook Islands in Fiji.

3. Under the MoU, the Government of India will be providing assistance of NZD 569,705.50 (New Zealand Dollars Five Hundred Sixty-Nine Thousand Seven Hundred Five and Cents Fifty only) for the 06 projects proposed by MFAI, Government of Cook Islands.

4. India and Cook Islands have traditionallyenjoyed warm and cordial relations based on mutual respect, goodwill and mutual understanding. These relations have been strengthened further through initiatives such as the Forum for India Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC).

5. India has been extending assistance under grant-in-aid for executing similar projects in Cook Islands as per the areas of priority identified by the Government of Cook Islands as a development partner. In March 2017, grant-in-aid was provided for 16 community development projects.

6. The signing of this MoU will further strengthen the cooperation between the two countries.
